America...the broken, the bleeding...

Boston bombings.  Texas fertilizer plant explosion.  Earthquakes in Oklahoma.  Worries over North Korea.  Arguments over gun laws and immigration.

Remember the old Anne Murray song, "A Little Good News"?  I sure do.  Used to be a huge country music fan and it was one of my favorites.  Written by Charles Black, Rory Bourke, and Thomas Rocco in 1983, the song was a #1 for Murray on the country charts.  I think the lyrics of this song still speak volumes today:

I rolled out this morning
Kids had the mornin' news show on
Bryant Gumbel was talkin' 'bout the fighting in Lebanon
Some senator was squawkin' 'bout the bad economy
It's gonna get worse you see, we need a change in policy.

There's a local paper rolled up in a rubber band
One more sad story's one more than I can stand
Just once how I'd like to see the headline say
"Not much to print today, can't find nothin' bad to say", because

Nobody robbed a liquor store on the lower part of town
Nobody OD'ed, nobody burned a single buildin' down
Nobody fired a shot in anger, nobody had to die in vain
We sure could use a little good news today.

I'll come home this evenin'
I'll bet that the news will be the same
Somebody takes a hostage, somebody steals a plane
How I wanna hear the anchor man talk about a county fair.

And how we cleaned up the air, how everybody learned to care
Whoa, tell me

Nobody was assassinated in the whole Third World today
And in the streets of Ireland, all the children had to do was play
And everybody loves everybody in the good old USA
We sure could use a little good news today.

Nobody robbed a liquor store on the lower part of town
Nobody OD'ed, nobody burned a single buildin' down
Nobody fired a shot in anger, nobody had to die in vain
We sure could use a little good news today.

When will America wake up and see that we need a return to values?  A return to morals and ethical standards.  A return to Biblical principles even.

Though I mention the Bible, I really don't think it matters if you are a Christian or not, you have to see that the human mind of many people is warped.  There is a depravity running amok in this nation unlike anything we have experienced before.  There is a hatred coming from extremists on both sides that is unleashing horror on our country...on states, cities, neighborhoods...families.

We seem to be more divided than we have ever been.  I think Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King, Jr. would be ashamed of us.  Ours is not the United States they imagined.  It is not the United States they fought for.

We need our representatives in Washington to put aside politics and truly work together.  They talk about working together.  Each side claims it is the other sides' fault.  Both sides share the blame in this.  There will never be 100% unity in writing and passing legislation.  However, there can be 100% compromise.

Both sides can stop the bickering and start taking the best of each of their proposals and working to see legislation enacted that is for the benefit of ALL people in the United States.  Isn't that what they were elected to do?  Not to postulate and pontificate over every little nuance of every single bill while secretly trying to insert their own little special interests caveats into those bills.

This is a great nation we live in and I am so proud to call The United States of America my home.  However, I am saddened each day as I see parts of what made this nation great begin to crumble.  This is no longer the nation our forefathers envisioned.  However, I believe we can get it back.  Enough of us just have to be willing to stand up and say it.

Below is an updated version of "A Little Good News" that Anne Murray and the Indigo Girls did in 2009.  If you are not moved nearly to tears or at least get chills...well, maybe you are part of the problem.
